The Ride To Freedom

In May 1961 CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), sent out a group of members on two different public buses to ride into the Deep South. They wanted to test the Supreme Court’s ruling in Boynton vs. Virginia that prohibited segregation in interstate bus and rail stations. During the trip, the college kids sat where they wanted to on the bus. When the busses came to stops the whites went into black only sections and blacks went into white only sections.
