Chapter 10 Web Post

I felt that chapter 10 was a great way to wrap up everything we have learned this semester, and send us on our way with helpful tips and information needed to be great teachers in the future. While the chapter covered many useful tools for teachers, the part that will stick with me the most was the section discussing teacher portfolios. Our teacher portfolio is our whole teaching career, and the key to getting a job, all wrapped up in a neat little binder. It is extremely important that a…See More

Chapter 9 Discussion

The lesson from Chapter 9 that stuck with me the most this week was building a classroom community. Each year a new group of students enter into the classroom and become your "family" for a whole year. It is important that the students not only feel comfortable and safe around you the teacher but also their fellow classmates. This feeling of safety can be achieved by creating a community in your classroom. One approach to doing so is called the Responsive Classroom approach. The book defines it…See More

The link above is for Cool Math Games, a website that has tons of interactive and entertaining games for children from Kindergarten all the way to middle school. While the kids enjoy playing them, they are also learning about shapes, addition, subtraction, counting, and problem solving. The children I observed in my classroom loved getting to play Cool Math as a reward at the end of the day.

The link I provided is to ABC Mouse, a website that helps children in the VPK and Kindergarten level with math, reading, science, and the arts. It is not a free service, but I know several students in my class at work who use it, and they have made a noticeable difference in their education since they have joined.

USF Blog: Does Experience Really Matter?

Have you known what you wanted to be your whole life, or are you still trying to figure it all out? Spending every afternoon in my mom’s classroom since the age of five has lead me to know I wanted to be a teacher my whole life. I loved playing school, and helping my younger cousins and family members, so when I was old enough to get a job other than babysitting, I jumped at the opportunity to work at my old elementary school at the after school program. It was the best part of…

USF Blog: Did I Ruin My Future?

I am a sophomore at SCF, and I will be graduating this summer with my AA. From there I will be transferring to Florida State University, where I have been accepted into their Early Childhood Education program. I was thrilled when I got accepted into the program, but the more people I told, the more concerned I became with whether or not I made the right choice. We all know that we are not entering into this profession for the measly salary, but for the joy of working with…
