This news article discusses how the united states is falling behind in world eduction standards. The fall back is not due to the public school system, but in fact due to the culture of Americans. The United States culture does not ephasize the importance of education and dysfunctional families contribute to lower educational scores in schools. It is reported that Finland has the world's best educational system.

Students at I.S. 318 Middle School were the first to win the United States Chess Federation's National High School Championship. The Middle School came in second place in 2011, but this year came in first. The triumph gave victories to not only students but also to the school, showing that chess, extracuricullar activities, and after school programs are important to education.

Scientist Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller began an online learning system that distributes a wide array of course materials and lesson plans called coursera. Furthermore, they chose to create this web portal to reach thousands of students and teachers alike with free educational alternatives. The article shows the importance and the vast push for new technological tools and resources.
